Chicago Pizza Cafe - Frisco, TX

The anticipation to the opening of this place in our (Texas) hometown was great. Kristin and I were excited that a good non-chain pizza place would be opening nearby. I followed them (and conversed with them) on Twitter. I was very excited for their launch.

Then they opened. I stopped on the way home from work on a Friday hoping to order, have a drink, then bring the food home.

A) They have no bar -- but they ARE BYOB which is cool.
B) The decor is bad. Boring. Like a cell phone store with tables.
C) The servers seemed way overwhelmed. You had to repeat things 3 times to them because they had other things going on. I was told it would take 45 minutes to cook my pizza because they didn't have enough ovens. Not a good sign.

I went across the street to TruFire and had a couple amazing drinks (review coming soon) then came back and picked up our pizza. It looked great and felt as heavy as a 2-year-old.

I got home and we dug in! Kristin thought it was great... I thought it was good, but had a weird taste. I can't explain what it was... almost an electronic taste. Maybe it's a new oven taste. It reminded me the taste of a crappy grill pan I have that never stops tasting new. Or like licking a toaster. But I don't mean to focus on that taste because it was subtle and overall the pizza tasted good.

Flash forward to the next morning. Oh sweet Jesus did my stomach hurt. I have Crohn's disease and this pizza turned my stomach like no food before has. Almost a 2 day suffer off of it. And I only ate 2 slices. I'd rather eat something enjoyable then get beaten up.

GRADES:

Kristin: C -- "It was OK."
Jackson: C- -- "My butt would sue if it could."
